Dating campagnolo cranks
When Campagnolo offered his first cranks in 1958 (above, 1965 version shown), Campagnolo used five arms for the spider instead of Herse’s three arms.Perhaps he thought that racers needed more support for the chainrings? While the new 4-arm bolt pattern makes for a much more practical design that offers the cyclist a more versatile component, the Campy Tech Lab was dedicated primarily on increasing performance characteristics. The new design incorporates a 8 bolt pattern with a spider arm design that not only holds the chainring in place by way of the bolt but also supports the chainring and in doing so, increases system rigidity. You can read article on the development of the Gran Sport here.) Regardless of how one feels about the aesthetics, the function is greatly improved from earlier Record cranksets- smooth and reliable- very positive even under full power. As I have the old SR 39/53 chainset with osymetric 44/54 currently (great for the flat) but want something smaller for hills, but still in osymetric rings (they stop the pain in my knees). Due to the new design on the cranks this may not fit your Osymetric chain rings correctly I am afraid and the suppliers do not list any compatability for these at this time.
